My Three Ideas For My Short Film
Idea 1
- Go all cliche and have a cheesy, ‘lovey dovey’ musical, where a relationship between two teenagers is the main focus.
- Family based musical.
- Girl is a nobody, she falls in love with the most popular and good looking boy in school - he doesn’t even know she exists. She does something outrageous, such as sings an amazing song infront on the whole school at a talent show and completely comes out of her shell. People begin to notice her. The boy she loves begins to notice her, she becomes popular and then they end up together.
- Very ‘High School Musical’ style. Bright colours and lots of exaggeration and cheesiness.
- Begins with sad emotional song from girl and then at the end it develops into a big happy cheesy song with everyone in it.
- Shots include girl at home in bedroom, and walking around college and shots of the lad with all his friends. Show the different in popularity. Clip of her singing can be done at a theatre near me, lighting etc.
Health and Safety issues for this idea:
- Using a camera out of college means I must be very careful with it and not let any food or drink near it as it could damage the equipment.
- Make sure all wires out of the way so no-one trips over it.
- When on a main road make sure that camera equipment is all attached securely and no-one is behaving silly to harm themselves or others. Try to film on a quieter road and make sure filming on the pavement and not in the road, try and do it at a quieter time so pavements are not crowded.
- When around college - if doing a moving shot make sure nothing is there to trip over and make sure people know to behave sensibly if in a crowded place. If filming in the zone, make sure no food is in the way and do it at a quiet time so people don’t get in the shot or distract me or the actors or cause havoc.
- If doing an outside shot, it may be cold, so make sure actors and crew are at a good temperature and wearing appropriate clothing.
- Make sure any use of props are used sensibly and no harm can come to anyone from them (e.g knife)
- Make sure that when filming in rooms that they are not cluttered, the floor is clear and there is space for movement and no accidents can happen.
Idea 2
- There is a geeky boy and he is in love with the ‘most popular’ girl, he does all her homework for her, she takes advantage of him basically and then he decides to pluck up the courage and ask her out. This however is done in a song and infront of her friends. This embarrasses her, so she decides to pull practical jokes on him which make him look even sillier. This then evolves into his suicide.
- For Teenagers.
Health and Safety Issues for this idea:
- Props that are used may cause harm to actors if not careful. So if any sharp objects get used they must be used safely and responsibly.
- When doing a moving shot may trip over something, so make sure nothing is in the way. Basically everything needs to be neat and tidy, well out of the way of wherever the shot of moving shot will need to move to.
- Keep food and drink away from equipment, as this could damage the equipment and break it.
- For outside shot make sure wearing appropriate clothes and if raining try to do shots inside rather than outside as it could damage camera equipment.
- When filming at College, I would have to make sure that wherever the shot took place inside or outside that it was not cluttered and had limited people around, because if there were a lot of people an accident may occur.
Idea 3
- Dark musical, which includes themes of obsession and fear.
- There is a girl who is obsessed and in love with another girl. They are best friends, she has a wall of photos with her on and paper and pen that she has used. She writes songs for her, and has pictures merged together of them both. She writes in her diary about her, include shots of her; writing in diary, staring at pictures of her, going on her Facebook, close up of her eyes and lips etc. However the best friend is in love with a boy. For the climax she tells her she loves her, and the girl takes it as a joke and then starts to get freaked out. Main girl gets angry, other girl tries to get away. Ends of a cliffhanger.
- Strange songs, that are quite depressing but become upbeat when the girl gets hopeful that they could be together, merge songs together when obsessed girl sings songs about best friend and best friend sings about boy.
- Include flashbacks of when they have been together, just hanging out.
- Not family based. But for more mature people, 18+.
Health and Safety for this idea:
- Same as ones said previously for other two ideas (Food and drink, wires and anything out of the way to trip over.)
- Make sure props used are suitable and not dangerous.
- Specifically for this one, when the fast paced final scene is going on, make sure the actors know what they are doing so not to trip and hurt themselves. Also make sure that the area in which this scene is happening is not cluttered.
- When doing outside shots, as it is in January it will be cold, so make sure wearing appropriate clothing to keep them warm.
All ideas are practical but could be difficult to complete in the 10 minute time frame. I'm also unsure whether this would appeal to the broad target audience. Hopefully focus group responses will confirm audience appeal.
